Migrating from QBCore

This guide moves your QBCore server to Qbox, and brings your players' characters, money, jobs, items and vehicles along.

QBCore has been deprecated by its maintainers and is no longer offered as a txAdmin recipe. Qbox started as a copy of QBCore, so it is the closest place to move to. Most of your server comes with you.

Who this guide is for

This guide is written for server owners, not developers. You don't need to know how to code. You will:

  • click around in txAdmin, which you already use,
  • run ready-made database commands in HeidiSQL, a free database program,
  • copy and edit a few text files in Visual Studio Code, a free text editor.

Every step tells you exactly what to click and type, and how to check that it worked. If you have never used HeidiSQL or VS Code, read Tools and basics first. It explains everything this guide expects you to know.

How the migration works

You never touch your live server until the very end. Instead:

  1. You build a second, separate Qbox server: the test server.
  2. You copy your settings over to it, such as jobs, items and staff.
  3. You load a copy of your database into it and convert that copy.
  4. You and your staff test everything.
  5. On go-live day, you repeat the database steps on a fresh copy and switch your players over.

Your QBCore server keeps running the whole time, and if anything goes wrong you just keep using it.

What you keep and what you lose

Read this before you start, so nothing surprises you or your players.

Your own scripts may need work too. Most QBCore scripts keep working, but scripts built for qb-inventory, qb-target or qb-menu need a Qbox version or an update. You check each one in Your own scripts.

The full checklist

Do these in order. Each line links to the step that explains it. Don't skip ahead: later steps rely on earlier ones.

Part 1: Prepare. Nothing on your live server changes.

Part 2: Build the test server.

Part 3: Move your settings to the test server.

Part 4: Convert a copy of your database.

Part 5: Test.

Part 6: Go live.

Rules that keep you safe

  • Never do this on your live server. Everything happens on the test server and a copy of your database.
  • Check which database is selected before you run any SQL. The guide shows you how, every time.
  • Keep your backups until well after you go live. Don't delete the old database or server folder.
  • Write everything down. Keep a text file open and paste every database command and console command into it as you run it, in order. On go-live day you run that exact list again.
  • Read every check. Most steps end with "How to check it worked". If the check fails, fix it before you continue. Problems get much harder to find later.
  • Stuck? Stop and ask. Guessing on a database is how data gets lost.

Do I have to convert my scripts?

No. qbx_core includes a bridge: a compatibility layer that answers QBCore's functions and events, so most QBCore scripts run without changes.

Rewriting a script for Qbox is optional. Developers can do it later, one script at a time. Your own scripts shows which scripts need attention.

Getting help

Ask in the support channels of the Qbox Discord. You get an answer much faster if you include:

  • the step of this guide you are on, for example "Database, step 3",
  • the full error text from the console or HeidiSQL, copied as text, not a screenshot of part of it,
  • the name of the resource involved, if there is one.
